Internet History
It all began when I opened up Netscape Navigator at school on Windows 98. Yup, I didn’t use the internet at our house since all I did was play games on it, which was also a Windows 98. I was in 4th grade in 1998 at the time and we were doing research. I knew about the internet just never really used it that much like I do today. This was the first actual time to actually surf the web as well as my impatience of pages not loading quick enough in the stupid browser.
The internet connection at the school was in the middle-when it wanted to that is. I was quite amused by the loading image for NN back then. I got more into the internet when my mom bought AOL Online. Yup, good ol’ dialup. It sucked though since some of the sites I went to were blocked. Weren’t even bad ones. I spent most of my time in chat rooms and playing games. The games sucked, so, I just stayed in the chat rooms.
I still remember when seeing “lol” for the first time and being told what it was. I mostly went into horse-related chat rooms since I loved horses (I still do today, but not that much) and-damn-some of them were rude. I was back to them of course. There was some people who would email me shouting at me at god knows what-I forget-and I would reply back to them. I finally became friends with the people in the chat room though.
I once got a AOL Online disk for myself since I was tired of my mom putting how many hours I could stay on. I installed it and told my brother about it. My mom didn’t find out about since I told my brother that if he did, then he wouldn’t have so-and-so hours again since our mother didn’t like us on the internet for so long. So, he kept his mouth shut until we got older. I uninstalled it before she found out and she made us new ones.
We soon got AT&T internet, which made me so glad since we didn’t have any limits whatsoever. I soon disovered 1Hwy.com and made a Sailor Mars website. Yup, and it’s sad that I still know the damn URL. Hell, I claimed http://sailormars.1hwy.com first for goodness sake. Looking back at it, it makes me cringe since it’s made with a freaking page builder.
As you can see, none of the picture pages have the pictures of Sailor Mars since I was so lazy and didn’t finish. My dad soon got rid of Windows 98 and the computer to get the computer we now use today with Windows XP Professional Edition and DSL. I soon landed upon this sim game called, Horseland in 2003, and was known as Firestorm. It is still up today and I visit every so often. It’s very boring though.
All you do is train horses to be the best and not have it crossbred. I learned a little bit of HTML though. Wasn’t fun as this roleplay named Go Wild, which allowed you to be roleplaying horses or unicorns. This is where I got more into HTML, mostly scrollbars since it was easy to make layouts with.
Of course, that roleplay went off the internet, the creator didn’t have enough money to keep it going on the domain. Such a pity since it was the best roleplay I’ve ever done on the internet itself since most of them were on forums while she (the creator) used HTML, PHP, and so much more.
I learned some more HTML and CSS there though and finally made my first ever website at Freewebs.com. It’s still up but all it’s doing is redirecting people who know about it to it’s new home here. It was made right after seeing this site.
My friend Ali got me into anime once again in 2000 (Oh my, jumping around! Ah it won’t kill you.) and right after seeing that site in 2003 of my favorite anime male character, I decided to make my own. It was a big success but, looking at the other’s site, I wanted to get better and better. I soon made a personal site since all my information wouldn’t fit in that small section of the Webmistress page.
I named it Kasai Ouhi, which is Fire Queen in Japanese (Or, at least I think so since they switch the words.) I visited other sites and made a site about my book that will soon be published soon (at least I hope so), three fanlistings, a review site was also up but I took that down after getting sites that were way above my level, and a notebook archive.
I got tired of finding a host though for all the sites I was coming up with so I showed my dad Dreamhost and he bought the hosting while the domain came free. I don’t consider myself a professional at all. I consider myself as just a website/graphic maker. I mostly use CSS based layouts now. I’m still learning since I download templates to learn.
