Exactly a decade ago on this day, 08 May 2009, The Daily Telegraph first published a set of Expenses from sitting MPs at the time that would expose the wrongdoings and corruption from deep within Parliament. This would also set the chain of events that would ultimately bring down not only the late Speaker of the House Michael Martin, but also Labour in the 2010 UK General Election.
Fast forward to 2019, with Brexit negotiations at a deadlock, both Remain and Leave campaigners at odds with each other and the public’s dissatisfaction and anger at the current Conservative Government and Labour Opposition, how much of the public’s action now can be traced back to that very scandal back in 2009? Presented by Emily Maitlis.
All rights belong to the BBC and I do not own any of the footage!
